Both file formats are recognized standards for exchanging GPS data.<\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">KML files can be opened by applications such as Google Earth or uploaded to your Google Maps account. GPX files can be opened by applications such as Garmin Basecamp (free), and National Geographic Topo. ExpertGPS is a low cost but versatile application that opens and saves GPS files in variety of formats.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Understand that these files will be most useful to experienced GPS users. If you have no maps installed, only the Avenza Basemap will be available to you.\u00a0<\/p><p>Select \u201cOpen basemap\u201d or if preferred, select a map that you have installed.<\/p><p>In the bottom right corner of the Basemap screen, there is an icon that looks like three squares stacked atop one another. This is the Map Layers icon. Click it to add layers to your basemap of choice.<\/p><p>In the top right corner of the Map Layers screen, there is a plus icon. Click the plus icon, then select \u201cImport Layers.\u201d<\/p><p>In the Import Layers page, locate the \u201cFROM THE WEB\u201d section. In the box that says \u201cEnter or Paste URL here,\u201d paste the link that you copied to your clipboard in Step One.
